Original Madhubani Bharni painting – Twin Peacocks & Lotus

Twin Peacocks & Lotus is an Original Madhubani Bharni Painting featuring two beautifully decorated peacocks facing each other, surrounded by lotus flowers, foliage, vines and intricate decorative patterns.

Unlike the monochrome Kachhni pieces in this collection, this artwork leans into colour — vibrant, hand-filled areas paired with confident outlines and the layered pattern-work Bharni style is known for. It’s painted with acrylic colours on 230 GSM paper and sold unframed, so you can pick a frame that fits your own space.

This is a one-of-a-kind original — once it’s sold, there won’t be another exactly like it.

About the Artwork

Two peacocks, facing each other across a central lotus, sit at the heart of this piece. Around them, flowering vines and leaves fill out the composition, and a small stylised sun sits above, watching over the scene. A decorative border runs around the whole painting, tying it together.

This kind of dense, colour-filled detailing is what Bharni-style Madhubani art is known for, and it’s a nice contrast to a more line-driven, monochrome piece — proof that Madhubani art isn’t one single look.

A note on the imagery: the peacock and lotus motifs are described here simply as visual elements of the composition, without attaching any specific religious or symbolic reading to them.

The Peacocks & Floral Composition

The two peacocks anchor the painting, positioned to face one another with the lotus placed between them — a natural, balanced composition. Their bodies carry several colours and small repeated patterns, and the space around them fills in with flowering plants and curling vines rather than being left empty.

It’s a busier, more colourful read than a Kachhni piece, and that contrast is really the point of a peacock Madhubani painting like this one — colour and pattern doing the work that fine line usually does elsewhere in the tradition.

Framing & Display

This one comes to you unframed, on purpose — it lets you pick something that actually fits your space instead of settling for whatever frame we’d have chosen. A simple wooden frame plays up the folk-art feel; a plainer contemporary frame gives it more of a modern gallery look. Either works.

At roughly 11.5 x 8.5 inches, it sits comfortably in:

Living rooms
Bedrooms
Study rooms
Home offices
Entryways
Creative spaces
Gallery walls
Personal art collections

If you see it styled with a frame in any photo here, that’s just for display — the frame itself isn’t part of what you receive.

Why Choose This Artwork?

Original Handmade Artwork — A genuinely handmade painting, not a printed reproduction — every colour and outline was applied by hand.
Vibrant Bharni Style — The filled colour areas and dense decorative detailing give this piece the visual richness Bharni-style Madhubani art is known for.
A Strong Peacock Composition — The two peacocks make this an easy pick if you’re after bird- or nature-inspired Indian art specifically, rather than a purely abstract or geometric piece.
Rich Floral Detailing — Lotus flowers, leaves and vines fill out the composition rather than leaving it sparse.
Traditional Art, Contemporary Appeal — Colourful enough to anchor a traditional-styled room, but versatile enough to work as a single striking accent piece in a modern one too.
Truly One-of-a-Kind — Only one original of this painting exists. Once it’s sold, this exact piece won’t be repainted or restocked.
